Fun and Colorful Hawaii Guest Room: One Room Challenge Reveal
We have crossed the finish line and boy am I excited to share with you all the completed room. This guest room was created for a client who wanted a beachy relaxed environment but that wasn’t boring or too reserved. The client also loves the boho aesthetic, so we aimed to land somewhere between costal and boho. My client also loves to travel so we incorporated pieces that reminded her of her travels, lanterns from Morocco, a hand drawn art piece from a friend in India, a handwoven blanket from Mexico, one of a kind artwork from Peru, all add up to a place that feels both familiar and fresh.
We decided at the last minute to change out the ceiling fan for something that would visually disappear and allow the focus to be on the furnishings and linens. You can see the before and after here and purchase here White Ceiling Fan
We also changed out a few electrical outlets from the original beige color to white, however I will save that harrowing tale for another day lol. Let’s just say my new manicure did not survive.
Many items in the room came from Target. We are on an island with very few retail options and shipping delays combined with the fact that many companies do not ship to Hawaii made Target an easy choice, plus their stuff is usually amazing and a great value. All bedding, the area rug, the rattan chair, picture frame, faux plant and alarm clock, were all from Target. Comforter Rug Lumbar Pillow Shams Sheet Set Euro Sham Unfortunately some of the other throw pillows are no longer available.
We did decide to change the lanterns cords to white after some debate, and the white cords shipped quickly from Amazon. After comparing the braided cord to white we agreed we loved how the white cord visually disappears and the lanterns are almost floating in air. We also stapled the cord flat to the wall to reduce the visual business that was occurring with the braided cords. The plastic cord is also much easier to keep clean as dust can be wiped off quickly unlike the braided cord. White light cord with switch. The nightstands are also from Target and were a great buy that has plenty of storage for guests. Turquoise Night Stand.
We also found a cute starfish ceramic, macramé wood shelf and adorable gecko plant buddies at a local boutique called The The Treehouse .The original bob planters are from Wayfair Bob Planters and the succulents inside them are from Home Depot. The white ceramic pot and its plant are from Lowes.
Just as a reminder here is the before and after of the guestroom side by side.
The client could not be happier and said she often just goes into the room and stares, so I call that a win. I am so grateful for the opportunity to share this experience with you all alongside all the other One Room Challenge guest participants and featured designers. Now that this project is wrapped up, I am going to go peruse the ORC website and see all the other amazing reveals.
