Guess what time it is…ORC week 1

As someone who is obsessed with design, before and after photos of rooms, and DIY, I am constantly on the lookout for tips, tricks, hacks, and learning about design. As I was following all these great accounts on IG I realized that many of the people who provide me with daily inspiration, have participate in something called the One Room Challenge. I cautiously followed along on their journeys and decided that “one day” I would love to participate as a guest. Well that day has come!

If you are not familiar with the One Room Challenge you can learn more about it here https://www.oneroomchallenge.com/

Since it is week one, we are revealing the room that will be the focal point of the next 8 weeks. Because this is my first ORC I didn’t want to get in over my head and not be able to complete the room. Other brave souls who have done the ORC before have managed to complete entire kitchens or bathrooms in the eight week time frame! If you think it is impossible or slightly insane (I agree with you btw) just check out my friend and inspiration Sachi Lord and her past ORC projects. https://www.sachilord.com/ It is in large part because of her cheering me on to try this that I have had the courage to take this on. Here is the room I am tackling.

Ok so yes its just a bedroom whomp whomp. I know super exciting, however this room was so sad and depressing, missing closet doors, and just super bland (see the before picture). Shockingly this photo was used by the realtor for the listing when my client bought her house last year! *Insert appalled gasp here*. My client was brave enough to take this house on and I can definitely see the latent potential that she saw. Plus in this crazy housing market you take what you can get lol.

The client I am working with wanted something beachy and boho. We utilized a shared Pinterest board to gather inspiration and clarify things she loved and things she didn’t. At this point I created several mood boards and the client then signed off and it was go time.

The client was in love, and we immediately started sourcing the furniture and all the goodies. As many of you know, due to the pandemic, materials, furniture, lighting, you name it, are experiencing huge lead times. Lack of inventory and its just generally difficult to source the things you need. The sooner we could get things ordered and sourced the better. So week one was officially spent sourcing, ordering and prepping for paint.

Now that we are under way I will be sharing weekly the progress of the room both here and via IG. Also you can follow along with all the other guest designers at the ORC website as well as the featured designers and live vicariously through us without all the sweat, cursing and crying for the next eight weeks. https://www.oneroomchallenge.com/orc-blog
